It might not be a katana, but this is my latest project.

Just finished this customization of a Hanwei Yari. It has blackened steel fittings, a short padauk shaft, full wrap same' grip with black silk wrap.

The steel fittings were created from scratch by welding steel components together

I made a seppa out of sheet brass. The fittings were blackened with a oxidation finish and then sealed with a clear laquer. The wood was finished with linseed oil.

looks pretty fantastic with the wrap on it!

How difficult was it to wrap a perfectly round piece like that?

It was not much harder than wrapping a katana handle. I did find it a bit harder to keep everything lined up. I put the Yari between two of the stands I use for katana handles. It turned out to be very stable.
